One of my favourite pieces in this book is by Eve Tuck titled “Losing Patience for the Task of Convincing Settlers to Pay Attention to Indigenous Ideas”. Tuck reminds us that #decolonization is not a metaphor that can be delinked from “the #rematriation of Indigenous #land and life”
they’d done enough Marx to get Art’s dialectic of #colonialism as dispossession, dependency and oppression. His clearest message, that Canada had taken 99.8% of the land.
“Not a single Canadian has ever approached me to say: Why are there so many injustices committed against Indigenous peoples or Why is there not a strong movement for support justice and sovereignty for Indigenous people’s sovereignty movement in Canada?"
I may not have understood how vital Knockwood's story would be in my exploration of Canadian identity at the time, but I knew it was important. I have carried this book with me over 25 years, 6 moves, and 4 Provinces.
